Water Quality Monitoring

Detailed testing that shows your lake’s health and catches problems before they escalate.

What we measure

The indicators that matter

Every visit starts with a full depth profile in the field. Lab tests add the nutrients, algae, toxins and bacteria a probe cannot measure.

Depth profile

Our multiparameter probe records eight readings at every depth, from the surface to the bottom, so we can see exactly where conditions change.

TemperatureShows stratification and exactly where the thermocline sets up.
Dissolved oxygenFinds low oxygen zones near the bottom that stress fish and release nutrients.
pHTracks how acidic or basic the water is and how it shifts with algae growth.
ORPOxidation reduction potential shows when bottom water turns anoxic and sediments start releasing phosphorus.
ConductivityMeasures dissolved material and flags runoff or groundwater coming in.
SalinityTracks dissolved salts from runoff, irrigation return water or natural sources.
Chlorophyll aShows how much algae is in the water and the depth where it is concentrated.
TurbidityMeasures cloudiness from suspended sediment and algae.

How we collect it

Real time data plus long term trends

  • Field sampling and real time testing. Depth profiles of temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ORP, conductivity, salinity, chlorophyll a and turbidity.
  • Laboratory analysis. Nutrients, algae, cyanotoxins, bacteria, water chemistry and sediment phosphorus, ordered on their own or in bundles.
  • Continuous monitoring stations. Long term tracking of seasonal trends and ecosystem change.
  • Satellite imaging. Large scale monitoring of algal blooms, sediment and runoff.

Combining real time data with long term trends lets us manage waterbodies proactively and catch serious problems earlier.

What the results look like

Profiles and heat maps show how temperature, oxygen and water chemistry change with depth and through the season. Hover or tap the graphs to read the values.

Depth profile

Every parameter from one drop of the probe, side by side on the same depth scale. Move along the graph to read them all at once.

ORP is oxidation reduction potential. ORP falls sharply from 24 ft down. That is where the oxygen is gone and the sediment can release phosphorus.

Temperature through the season Illustration

Each column is one profile. Colors fill in between sampling dates to show when the lake stratifies in summer and turns over in the fall.

We work on lakes across Idaho, Oregon and western Wyoming.
