Oxygen Saturation Technology (OST™)
OST™ ensures consistent oxygen distribution over the sediments which reduces internal nutrient release and prevents harmful algal blooms (HABs). With oxygen saturation levels up to 25 mg/L, this system effectively oxidizes organic material which reduces the accumulation of sediments and enhances overall water quality.
- How OST™ Works OST™ operates through an automated oxygenation system that precisely maintains pre-programmed DO levels, ensuring maximum effectiveness while minimizing energy use. Onshore Oxygen Generation – OST™ features an on-site oxygen generator that purifies and compresses oxygen, then delivers that saturated oxygen to the submergible chamber.
- . Submersible Pump Circulation – Water from the lake bottom is drawn into the chamber using a low-energy, submersible pump.
- Oxygen Contact Chambers – The pumped water passes through oxygen contact chambers, where it is infused with concentrated oxygen before being returned to the lake.
-
- Oxygen Blanket Formation – The oxygen-rich water is distributed along the lakebed, forming an oxygen blanket over sediments, preventing nutrient release and internal loading that typically drive HAB formation.
- This unique method guarantees that DO levels above the sediments remain stable regardless of depth or climate conditions, providing long-term ecosystem health while significantly reducing operational costs compared to traditional aeration systems.
OST™ vs Traditional Aeration
Dissolved Oxygen Control – OST™ is the only system capable of precisely maintaining a set DO concentration, ensuring consistent oxygenation across the entire lakebed.
Prevention of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) – By reducing nutrient release from sediments, OST™ prevents the internal loading of phosphorus and nitrogen, which fuels HAB formation.
Elimination of Sediment Resuspension – Unlike aeration systems that cause water mixing and sediment disturbance, OST™ maintains clear water quality without mixing the water column.
Energy-Efficient & Automated – OST™ operates on demand, turning ON/OFF automatically based on real-time oxygen monitoring, reducing electricity usage by up to two-thirds compared to traditional systems.
Long-Term Water Quality Improvement – The oxygenation process breaks down organic material, improves oxidation rates, and enhances overall lake health, ensuring sustained clarity and stability.
The Future of Oxygenation & Water Quality Management
OST™ represents the next generation of lake and pond aeration, providing unmatched efficiency, water quality improvement, and cost savings. Whether addressing eutrophication, HAB prevention, or sediment management, this technology ensures that oxygen levels remain stable, nutrients stay locked in sediments, and aquatic ecosystems thrive.
At Living Waters, we integrate OST™ into our lake management strategies, offering clients a highly effective, energy-efficient solution for maintaining pristine water conditions.
