How a surface aerator works
A Kasco surface aerator is a floating motor and propeller that pulls water up from below and throws it into the air in a wide spray. Breaking the water into droplets greatly increases the contact between water and air, so much more oxygen from the air dissolves into the pond. Kasco rates its surface aerators at up to 3 pounds of oxygen per horsepower per hour.
The pumping also keeps the pond mixed, which helps break up stratification. Surface aerators suit residential ponds, stormwater and retention ponds, aquaculture ponds and wastewater lagoons, and they run in as little as 17.5 to 26 inches of water depending on size.
